Learning begins at birth. Sadly for many infants born at-risk in Nebraska, the achievement gap begins shortly thereafter.
In 2006, a group of people with a dynamic common interest, came together and passed LB 1256, establishing Sixpence to address this problem.
An innovative solution, Sixpence works to help caregivers and parents provide safe, stimulating environments that spark learning through meaningful interactions.
By investing in the early years we ensure that children who are at risk in Nebraska have the best opportunity to succeed in school and throughout life. We do this by funding a range of services including home visitation (supporting parents in their role as a child's first teacher) and center-based services that offer safe, responsive and stimulating environments.
Inside the human brain, an astonishing 700 synapses are formed per second in the early years - a rate that will never be matched again.
